Baltimore Window Coverings

Indoor and outdoor Baltimore window coverings say a lot about your home. They can also be practical in some cases, such as storm shutters or thick drapes that keep out the cold. But their aesthetic importance in your home and their ease of use are key.

Outdoor options are basically limited to shutters of various types. Some are decorative, including those that are not even intended to be closed, but are merely for appearance. Others are made of strong materials meant to protect windows from storms. Either way, choosing ones that easy to open and close (if intended to) and which match the exterior of your home is advisable. Ones that can be repainted if you repaint your home should be considered if you think it likely that you will do so.

The purpose of indoor blinds and draperies is to block the view and darken the room, mostly. They may also serve a secondary purpose in keeping the temperature a bit regulated, as the windows are the area of the wall where cold most easily seeps in or out. Blinds are popular because they can easily be turned to allow in more or less light without actually raising or drawing them aside. But they tend to break rather easily, and are unsuitable for temperature control.

Curtains or drapes come in various thicknesses, and are better at blocking the light than blinds. If you need the room especially dark for some reason (such as those that work at night and sleep during the day), there are specialized blackout curtains available for the purpose. For people who are merely sensitive to light but sleep during the night, any thick drapes should work.

Blinds come in plastic, wood, metal, and a few more exotic materials. Most of them are white or wood-colored, but other options are available. Curtains can be patterned or solid, and the same color or different colors on the inside and outside. You can even make your own if you are a crafty person.
