Digital Publications May Replace Free Websites For Newspapers And Magazines
Many newspapers and magazines offer websites
where readers can go to read their content on the
internet. However, many of these sites only offer a
portion of the content that is available in the
printed edition. They then recommend that readers
take out a subscription to the print edition or a
fuller electronic version. If current trends
continue, digital publications may completely
replace free websites for newspapers and magazines.
As the software available for producing totally
digital editions that are as aesthetically pleasing
as print editions and have richer, interactive
content becomes more commonly available, many news
reporting publications are likely to completely
discontinue their current free websites and offer
subscriptions to their digital editions.
Digital subscriptions can be offered at rates lower
than those of print editions because the cost of
production is much lower for digital media than for
printing. This makes it more likely that people will
pay for these subscriptions, even if they are
located in geographic areas completely unrelated to
the publications.
Many people who have moved away from their home
towns have already purchased subscriptions to
digital publications of their local newspapers or
other media that allows them to keep tabs on events
where they grew up, regardless of their current
physical location.
